Quindi, a mio avviso, «giuramento solenne preliminare» – come requisito per un’impresa militare – e non «situazione senza giuramenti (di pace)», come propone Pokorny [IEW 687; cfr. Buck 20.13, 21.25].
La concezione è quella della «guerra sacra», che perdura nel Medio Evo europeo come eredità di una visione del mondo di origine celtica (v. cap. XX).
5) La nozione dell’«ostaggio», specializzazione di quella più generica del «pegno», rinvia a un contesto di asservimento militare e sociale, tipico dell'età del Ferro, e non a caso di origine celtica: antico irlandese
